NBIA is Back – Renewed, Reconnected, and Ready to Lead

The National Biotechnology Industry Association (NBIA) is pleased to announce its relaunch and the resumption of its activities under a newly reconstituted Council and Committee, marking a renewed commitment to advancing Sri Lanka's biotechnology sector. Following a period of inactivity, NBIA is recommencing its operations with a clear vision to strengthen industry collaboration, promote innovation, and support the sustainable growth of biotechnology in Sri Lanka.

Established in 2016, NBIA is the national representative body for Sri Lanka's biotechnology industry, bringing together corporates, universities, research institutions, industry professionals, and other stakeholders engaged in biotechnology and related disciplines. The Association serves as a platform to foster industry–academia collaboration, promote research and innovation, facilitate knowledge exchange, and support initiatives that strengthen biotechnology education, skills development, quality assurance, and industry competitiveness. NBIA covers major sectors including Agricultural Biosystem Technology, Medical Biotechnology, Industrial Biosystem Technology, Marine & Aqua Technology, Energy and Environment, Food Biotechnology and Bioprocess Technology.

With its renewed initiatives, NBIA will focus on promoting industry engagement, strengthening biotechnology education and skills development, and supporting initiatives that enhance the quality and global competitiveness of Sri Lanka’s biotechnology ecosystem.

NBIA invites corporates, universities, research institutions, and professionals engaged in biotechnology and related fields to collaborate with the Association in shaping the future of this dynamic sector. Interested parties may contact the NBIA Secretariat at 011 558 8834 for further information and opportunities for engagement.
